Z-Wave Alliance Announces ZWLR Certification Milestone and Successful Z-Wave Summit & Unplug Fest

Beaverton, OR – May 28, 2024 – The Z-Wave Alliance, the standards development organization dedicated to advancing the smart home and Z-Wave® technology, today announces a
certification milestone as the total number of ZWLR Certified devices has surpassed 50, with a to-date total of 65 devices. The Z-Wave Alliance predicts this number to reach over 100 by the end of Q2 2024, given the number of device cases in progress as well as those in pre-certification all supporting ZWLR.

ZWLR ushers in a new era of Z-Wave connectivity, bringing expanded options for the smart home, multi-dwelling units (MDU), hospitality, and more. Engineered to provide significantly extended wireless range and support robust networks, ZWLR has been designed for applications where high-performance, increased scale, low power, as well as increased device security, range, and interoperability are all vital. Recently, there has been a flurry of announcements supporting ZWLR as adoption flourishes.

“Device certification numbers for Z-Wave from Q1 2024 has revealed that 80% of new products certified support ZWLR,” said Avi Rosenthal, Chair of the Board, Z-Wave Alliance. “Having just returned from our most recent Z-Wave Summit & Unplug Fest, discussions and sessions surrounding ZWLR were among the most popular, and for good reason. Within the past three months alone, it has been announced that the ZWLR specification for the European market is complete and set to be made available to members and, that a new silicon offering and SDK from Trident IoT will be the first to support the ZWLR specification in those regions.”

To kick-off the 2024 Z-Wave Summit, wireless IoT expert Eric Ryherd led participants in testing the RF range of Z-Wave devices along the Colorado River for the 2024 Unplug Fest. This exercise proved to be a challenging testing environment due to the high volume of RF noise and other radio frequencies from cell phones, walkie-talkies, and more. Attending members engaged in friendly competition to test the limits of ZWLR and the range of their devices in a unique testing environment.
