Paulus Schoutsen is the founder of both Home Assistant and Nabu Casa, and is President of the Open Home Foundation.  He began creating Home Assistant in 2013, a free and open source smart home platform that now automates over a million homes. He later founded Nabu Casa, a commercial entity that drives the development of Home Assistant. As President of the Open Home Foundation, he fights for the fundamental principles of privacy, choice, and sustainability for smart homes. The foundation now owns and governs Home Assistant, but also supports projects that further the Open Home mission. This includes Z-Wave JS, the most capable set of open source apps and libraries for Z-Wave. Originally from the Netherlands, he now lives in a very smart home with this family in Brooklyn, New York.
